Description:

This is a genuine European hand-painted hand fan, mounted in a special shadow box frame. It is believed to have been hand made in the late 1800s to early 1900s, which would make it over 100 years old. Fans like this can be worth well over a thousand dollars. Without documentation I cannot ask for that much and I am starting the value at $95 and will give consideration to the best offer. This has been in the family for at least 80 years. It is black lace with gold gilt hand-painted decoration on the lower portion of the ribs. See the detailed photos. Dimensions: Height: 18 inches Longest width: 30 ½ inches (Vertex is 15 ¼ inches) This delicate fan is in mint condition. All that is needed is to clean up the glass display frame and add a new backing behind the fan. The hand-carved frame may need some minor restoration, which would be easy to do by the average do-it-yourselfer. The back of the frame is covered in paper. Under the paper is the cardboard backing seen through the front glass. Removal of the back is easy to have access to the fan. Therefore, ignore the appearance of that paper since a new backing would be needed to replace the current one. Taking photos was challenging because I kept getting a reflection in the glass. This is why I took several pictures from strange angles. This is a most unique and beautiful antique European hand-fan. You must see it in person to really appreciate its workmanship and beauty.
